Welcome to the 2018 Academic Year at Western!

Dear Western Students,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 academic year!  Whether this is your first year at Western or your last, I hope you are as excited as I am by the opportunities the lie ahead to learn about others, ourselves, and the world we share. 

Supporting your success both in and out of the classroom is the primary mission of Western, and it’s a commitment shared by more than 2000 faculty and staff in a wide variety of roles.  Please know there are many resources at Western to support you in your journey, from academic and career counseling to mental health and wellness, and myriad ways to participate in Western’s vibrant campus life. 

Each one of you is an important part of our campus community, and I am always curious to know what we can be doing to make the student experience better.  On Wednesday, October 17 from noon – 1:00 pm I’ll be hosting “Sandwiches with Sabah” in the Viking Union’s Underground Coffeehouse.  I hope you’ll stop by to have a bite and talk with me about your experience at Western.  If you can’t make it, don’t worry—I’ll be hosting these listening sessions for students every quarter.  In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to say hello and introduce yourself if you see me walking around campus.  I am always eager to learn more from the student perspective, and look forward to hearing from you.
