Statement from President Randhawa on Immigration Executive Order

Message to Campus Mon, 01/30/2017 - 10:31

As a person who came to the United States as a graduate student from Pakistan in 1978 and who has spent my entire 34-year professional career in service to this great nation, I am disappointed and concerned about the recent federal executive order to ban individuals from seven countries, which are majority Muslim, from entering the United States.

Message to Campus Thu, 01/19/2017 - 10:29

Dear Western Community:

Happy New Year, and welcome back to campus!  I hope that you had the opportunity to rest and recharge over the holiday break, spend time with family and friends, or just enjoy some downtime between quarters.

Last fall I stated my commitment to listening and learning from you, the students, faculty and staff who are Western, and to expanding my understanding of Western’s strengths as well as the areas in which we can aspire to be better.  I had the opportunity to meet with groups from across the university in listening sessions, Read more

Speech Sun, 01/15/2017 - 16:07

I want to thank the conference committee of the Whatcom Human Rights Task Force for inviting me to speak with you today. It’s a privilege. The work that the Task Force does, and that all of you do as educators, advocates, and agents of change has never been more important.

Dr. Martin Luther King’s message of equality, justice, humanity and social change is especially meaningful this year as we recommit to the process of healing and bringing Read more

Dear Western Community,

I welcome everyone back from Thanksgiving break and hope that you had a relaxing and enjoyable time with family and friends.

Within that spirit I feel it is important for me to re-enforce Read more

Remarks to the Bellingham Leadership Forum, November 17, 2016

Speech Wed, 11/23/2016 - 11:04

Thank you for being here today at the Western Leadership Forum.  Still being new to Bellingham, I see many new faces in the audience, in addition to familiar ones who have already graciously welcomed Uzma and me to Bellingham.  I look forward to learning more from all of you about our community’s needs, and how Western can be a stronger partner in helping to meet them.

I’ve been thinking about the many dimensions of leadership that bring us together today.  At the top of the list, of course, is the opportunity to learn from one of Read more
